John Shack’s humanitarian journey to Georgia with an ambulance by STP

with an ambulance by STP

John Shackleton is 85 years old and drives an ambulance by himself to its destination in Georgia for its second life.

John has bought and stocked 35 ambulances over the last 30 years to provide emergency vehicles and medical equipment to humanitarian organisations in Eastern Europe and beyond.

John’s latest (and possibly last) mission is to a care centre (offering basic dental and medical treatment) on a farm near the Georgian/Russian border in Gardabani. Georgia has been negatively effected by the war in Ukraine. Two men are going to join him as co-drivers.The drive took around 7 days and the team slept in the ambulance during the trip.

John’s charity (Aid to Eastern Europe – www.aidtoeasterneurope.co.uk) has done the majority of the fundraising to buy the ambulance (around £20,000). However, they are hoping to raise a little more to buy further aid, fuel, ferry crossings and supplies for the 3,700 mile trip.
